My sock has a hole in in! Now what?

Instructor: Anne R.  (6)

2 Sessions: Saturdays, May 4 & 18   10-12 pm

Do you have a hole in your sock? Is it starting to look threadbare? Learn how to repair, reinforce and prevent this from happening.

Skills needed/Level: Intermediate: Students will learn to create a grid over the hole and repair it so it looks as if you re-knit it. We will learn how to repair a threadbare sock with duplicate stitch. We will also discuss ways to reinforce your socks, while knitting them and afterwards, to extend their life. We will be using fingering weight yarn and a darning needle for all of these techniques.

Homework Required Before Class: Students will need either three 4” x 4” swatches knit in stockinette stitch or 3 socks; one with a hole, one that is threadbare, and one to reinforce. You may also use a combination of swatches and socks. Fingering weight yarn is recommended for the swatches, that is most commonly what you will be using when working on a sock that needs repair. We will be cutting into your swatches, so choose your yarn accordingly.

Supplies: Students will need a darning needle, 3-5 g of fingering weight yarn in 3 or more colors to repair your sock or swatch, several locking stitch markers, scissors, and a pen for notes. Basic knitting notions: tape measure, gauge ruler

Class materials: Yarn for class must be purchased from beWoolen. We offer students a 10% discount on all yarn purchased for class Please check the class description for a complete list of required materials and for homework (if applicable) to be completed prior to class.
